Britain’s most unusual motor museum nears completion

Lincoln’s newest visitor attraction will soon be opening it’s doors. Situated near Boston, The Bubbblecar Museum will be the UK’s only public microcar museum, showcasing over 50 bubblecars, many in evocative period dioramas.

The museum has secured final approval on building regulations relating to the new museum and its display areas, with the local authorities concerned proving to be most helpful.

Work is underway on a mezzanine floor, which will house the museums extensive advertising and memorabilia archive. New flooring is due in coming weeks – along with the all important access staircase!

The museum development has featured on BBC Local radio, and volunteers have been lending a hand in the project too.

The latest batch of display cars to arrive include a rare Bamby, created by Yorkshire entrepreneur Alan Evans in the early 1980s. The car, which is locally owned, was unknown to the museum which has assembled a display of these strange little vehicles. A Cursor joins the display too – in pink. Possibly the ultimate in 80s bubblecar excess!

The Bubblecar Museum has a special museum preview on Sat, 5 Nov 2011. Why not come along? You need to book quickly however, tickets are going fast.

Bubblecar Museum to feature on BBC East Midlands Today

Jeremy Nicholas will visit the museum in September to record a feature for his series ‘Collectors’ on BBC East Midlands Today. Previous installments of the sub 3 minute slot have featured button, badge and valve radio collectors. Watch this space for details on when the piece will air.

Progress update

Work is progressing, we hope the campsite will be ready to use by May and the Museum, if we hit no snags, should be ready towards the end of this year with all facilities open and completed.

Progress and plans for the new museum

So far we have made a new renovation workshop, cleared the campsite fields and trimmed all the hedges and applied for permission to put in the campsite facilities, showers, loos etc.. The Museum building is awaiting planning permission but, fingers crossed, we have a letter saying the Planning department are quite keen on the project. We should end up with a larger museum, a much larger rally fields and campsite.

The Museum building will have hopefully an upstairs, much more parking and a larger cafe which can be used by rallyers for evening events. There will also be a farm type shop and a Museum shop.

Our JCB in the new rally field.

To this end we have bought a tiny tractor and mower to keep the waving wheat at walkable length, an ancient JCB for which if anyone has one laying around we need a very narrow bucket, a 9 inch or 12 inch I am told, and some new cars for the Museum !
